Interested in working at Bare Hill Pond? Below are links to classes and info you will need. These classes are for returning employees or new prospects who have spoken with the Recreation Director (774-670-0270) and have filled out all necessary paperwork (see links below for Town of Harvard Required Forms).  Please make sure you have COMPLETED all Town HR forms. 

Staff Positions at Bare Hill Pond:

 *Sticker Checker - no certifications needed
 *WSA (Water Safety Aide) - CPR/AED/First Aid and WSA certification required
 *LifeguardCPR/AED/First Aid, LG, and Waterfront certification required
 *WSI (Water Safety Instructor)CPR/AED/First Aid, LG, Waterfront, & WSI certification required
 *Head Guard/Program CoordinatorCPR/AED/First Aid, LG, Waterfront, & WSI certification required


WSI Training is not available in Harvard. Go to redcross.org to find a class.


Staff is reimbursed for 1 class per year and only if you miss less than 5 work days during the beach season (unless you get Rec Director approval prior to opening day). Reimbursement can happen the following year if you take 2 classes this year and work both years.

For the WSA course, candidates must:
  • Be 14 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.
  • First Aid, CPR & AED are required. You can obtain these certifications by going to redcross.org to find a class or you can take the certification class at the beach on 6/26/24 from 9am-2pm. Online classes are fine.
  • WSA course is mandatory and will be held on 6/26/24 from 2-6pm at the beach

For Lifeguard courses, candidates must:
  • Be 16 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.
  • Swim 550 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
  • Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20yards; surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object; return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they can get a breath; exit the water without using steps or a ladder.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

  • LG Recertification: 6/21/24, 9am-4pm
  • New LG Initial Certification: 6/24/24 - 6/27/24 (+ 6/28/24 for raindate or remediation), 9am-4pm
  • LG Waterfront ONLY: 6/28/24, 9am-2pm
  • CPR for ALL staff: 6/26/24, 9am-2pm
