Learn to Swim 2025 • Register • View Cart •

The Harvard Town Beach follows the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program. For children, program includes Water Tots (typically ages 0-4), Youth Swimming Levels 1-6 (typically ages 4-17) and Private Lessons. For adults, we offer Private Lessons in the afternoon. We run 3 two week long sessions during the summer. If you sign up for more than 1 class you receive a 10% discount on the additional classes.

* Adult Lessons and Private Lessons for Children are offered in the afternoon and on Saturdays.
* Each child in the Infant level Water Tots must have an adult in the water with them at all times.
* Each child in the Toddler level Water Tots must have an adult within eye sight/ear shot.
* Classes with minimal registrations may be combined or canceled.
* We do welcome non-residents for lessons. Non-residents must park at the schools and walk down to the beach and then we kindly ask that you depart after your lesson is over.

If you are uncertain what level is best for your child, instructors are available at the beach each day from 11am to 5pm to test swimmers for the appropriate level. Swimmer's level will be adjusted by the instructor during the first week of lessons, if necessary. Please note that we have a new policy this year regarding use of life jackets and other personal flotation devices (PFDs). While this does not apply to swimming lessons, we wanted to make caregivers aware of it here. 

Harvard Town Beach Life Jacket Rules and Regulations
Individuals may use a Personal Flotation Device (PFD)/ Life Jacket at Harvard’s Town Beach if they are under the age of 18, are a non-swimmer, or are an at-risk swimmer.
Rules for Lifejacket use:
· ONLY United States Coast Guard Approved Type I, II or III PFDs are allowed. Inflatables, floaties, water-wings, suits with a built-in float, noodles etc. are not allowed at Town Beach. Look on the inside of the PFD for a stamp indicating if it is a Type I, II, or III to ensure you are purchasing a verified and safe product.
· Lifeguards have the right to deny the use of a PFD if it is not the appropriate type or if they believe it is not appropriately sized or in proper condition.
· All persons wearing PFDs must remain in designated shallow water areas as demarcated by the buoy line.
· All persons wearing a PFD must be accompanied by an adult swimmer and be always within arm’s reach, so called “touch supervision”.
· Lifeguards have the right to take the person wearing the PFD out of the water if they are not accompanied by an adult swimmer.
· Parents/Guardians/Caretakers are responsible at all times for the individual using the PFD.

The use of a Personal Flotation Device is not an appropriate replacement for close and active supervision of non-swimmers or at-risk swimmers. PFDs are not failsafe against drowning incidents.
Non-swimmers and at-risk swimmers should never be left alone near water even while wearing a PFD or in a Lifeguarded environment.
